Teen Writes Her Personal College Essay About Pizza - and She's Accepted to Yale

A high school senior got accepted to Yale and it was her essay on pizza that helped get her in.

Pizza is Carolina Williams’ favorite food, and when the prestigious university in New Haven, Conn., prompted her to “write about something that you love” in 200 words or less, she picked her top indulgence.

“I immediately thought about ordering pizza because that's literally what I love to do,” she told Inside Edition. "I love pizza."

“Accepting those warm cardboard boxes at my front door is second nature to me, but I will always love ordering pizza because of the way eight slices of something so ordinary are able to evoke feelings of independence, consolation and joy,” she wrote.

Her essay dazzled the powers that be at Yale. The admissions officer even wrote a handwritten note with her acceptance letter.

“As a fellow lover of pizza, I laughed out loud (then ordered pizza) after reading your application. Yale would be lucky to have you,” the letter stated.

The Tennessee teen celebrated the big news by ordering Papa John’s, which is her favorite pizza.

But despite the Ivy League institution's offer, she's decided instead to attend Auburn University in Alabama.

“It was a really hard decision for me to make, but I love the South and I’ll be closer to home,” she admitted.

It doesn't hurt that Auburn has a Papa John’s on campus.

“I love Auburn for lots of reasons, but I am very excited they have Papa John’s there,” she added.
